How we earn commissions, and our promise to keep recommendations honest.

| THE SHORT VERSION Some links on Where in the Philippines are affiliate links. If you click and book or buy something, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. These commissions help us keep producing free articles, videos, and guides. We only recommend places, products, and services we believe are worth your time and money. An affiliate link never changes what we recommend or what we say about it. |
1. What Is an Affiliate Link?
An affiliate link is a special URL that tracks when a visitor clicks through from our Website to a partner’s website. If you complete a qualifying action — such as booking accommodation, buying a product, or reserving a tour — the partner pays us a small commission.
Important: this commission comes out of the partner’s marketing budget, not your pocket. The price you pay is exactly the same as if you visited the partner’s site directly.
2. Affiliate Programs We Participate In
Where in the Philippines participates in affiliate programs with the following partners (and may add more in the future):
- Agoda — hotel and accommodation bookings across the Philippines and worldwide.
- Klook — tours, activities, attraction tickets, and travel experiences.
- Lazada — travel gear, gadgets, and other products available on the Lazada Philippines marketplace.
- Shopee — travel essentials, products, and items featured in our articles, available on Shopee Philippines.
If we add new affiliate programs (such as Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Amazon Associates, or others), we will update this disclosure accordingly.
3. How We Use Affiliate Revenue
Affiliate commissions are an important part of how we sustain Where in the Philippines as a free resource. The revenue helps us:
- Travel to destinations across the Philippines and produce firsthand content
- Pay our writers, videographers, and contributors
- Maintain our website, hosting, and editorial tools
- Continue offering articles, videos, and guides at no cost to you
Without affiliate revenue, we would either need to charge for content or rely entirely on advertising. We believe affiliate partnerships — when used honestly — are a fairer model for everyone.
4. Our Editorial Promise
We take our credibility seriously. Our editorial promise is simple:
- We only recommend what we believe in. We do not feature places, products, or services we wouldn’t suggest to a friend or family member.
- Affiliate status never determines our recommendations. If we think one option is better, we say so — even if a competing option pays a higher commission.
- We disclose affiliate relationships clearly. Articles containing affiliate links include a visible disclosure so you always know where we stand.
- Honest reviews come first. If a place, product, or service has flaws, we’ll mention them — even if we earn a commission from it.
- We update outdated recommendations. If a place declines in quality or closes, we update or remove the article — affiliate link or not.
5. How Affiliate Links Are Disclosed
In compliance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines, the Philippine Consumer Act (Republic Act No. 7394), and similar regulations in other jurisdictions, we disclose our affiliate relationships in multiple places:
- On this Affiliate Disclosure page (linked from our Website footer on every page).
- In a footer link visible on every page of whereinthephilippines.com.
- Inline at the top of every article that contains affiliate links, in a clear notice such as: “This article contains affiliate links. If you book or purchase through these links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.”
- In social media posts where required, using clear language such as #affiliate, #ad, or platform-specific disclosure tools.
6. Sponsored Content vs. Affiliate Content
It is important to understand the difference:
- Affiliate content (governed by this disclosure) involves links to third-party products or services we have chosen independently. We earn a commission only if you complete a qualifying action.
- Sponsored content involves payment from a brand, business, tourism board, or LGU in exchange for content creation. Sponsored content is always clearly labeled as “Sponsored,” “Partnership,” “In collaboration with,” or similar — and is governed by separate editorial policies.
Both affiliate and sponsored content support our work, but we treat them as distinct, label them differently, and never blend the two.
7. Your Choice
Using affiliate links is always your choice. If you prefer, you can:
- Visit a partner’s website directly without using our affiliate link
- Search for the same product, hotel, or service through a different channel
- Use the information from our articles purely as research without making a purchase
We appreciate every reader who chooses to support our work through our affiliate links — it genuinely makes a difference. But we want our content to be useful to you regardless of whether you click.
8. Questions or Concerns
If you have any questions about our affiliate relationships, our editorial standards, or want to report a concern about a specific recommendation, please contact us:
